LEGAL AND CARE ISSUES AFFECTING THE ELDERLY

The Workshop will cover the following:

  • Continuing Care Assesments / Use of Decision Support Tool
  • Local Authourity means test
    - Deliberate Deprivation
    - Use of family home
  • Trust lawyers - What can and cannot be done?
  • Care Home Contracts - What constitutes fair and reasonable?

The items above are issues that are topical in the light of the recent Green Paper on care – ‘Shaping the future of care together’. Our speaker, Tish Hanifan, sat on the Private Finance Working Group that reported to Government on the publication of this Green Paper.

Tish is a barrister, freelance lecturer and consultant with the professional training company, Legal Support Services (S.E.) Ltd..  She lectures to Solicitors, Accountants and Financial Advisers on all aspects of advising the Older Client throughout the UK.

She is a founder member and Board Director of Solicitors for the Elderly and Chair of the Kent Branch of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP).  Tish is also joint Chair of the Society of Later Life Advisers recently launched to support Advisers and promote the provision of specialist advice to those at and in retirement.

Tish is the author of “Equity Release Made Easy” published by Age Concern.
