International Lawyers visit Poole to establish HK Network

For Humphries Kirk Solicitors, it was a slight case of 'poacher turning gamekeeper' last Wednesday as they hosted an international gathering of lawyers, having only recently successfully completed a matter in New York for a national charity with  the United Nations, under United Nations law.

The Humphries Kirk International Seminar, which was attended by local businesses as well as eight international associate and correspondent lawyers from six different countries, gave guests an insight into business in France and Ireland. Senior partner of Parisian law firm, LBMB, Maitre Jacques Beghain spoke to guests about the benefits of the 'notarial deed' which can be used to raise secured finance against  assets in a quick cheap and simple way, whilst giving the creditor the means of ensuring payment without the need for court intervention (very useful if you own a property in France), whilst Joseph O'Malley and Sabrina Burke, Partner and Associate respectively at Dublin law firm Hayes, spoke to guests about the considerable taxation social and legal benefits of incorporating a business in Ireland.

The foreign lawyers included Avv. Rossana Maffeis of Milan, Mr Jon Sutton of Malaga and Messrs Stefan Michels and Helmut Brendt from Cologne, as well as Humphries Kirk’s own consultant Susan Hardie from Chalons-en-Champagne. The common denominator was  that these professionals have all been correspondents or Associates of Humphries Kirk for many years.

After an introduction which was a bit like the opening bars of Cabaret the musical (“Welcome, Bienvenue, Wilkommen, Estamos Encantdos and Bienvenuta in Grand Britannia”) James Selby Bennett, Senior Commercial Partner at Humphries Kirk said  "The real significance of this evening is that we in Humphries Kirk are thoroughly familiar with our overseas brethren with whom we have fought and won cases and deals. However this is the first opportunity for them to meet and get to know each other and for our guests from the Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset professional community to have a chance to meet them. The fact that 8 busy lawyers are prepared to come to Poole from all over Western Europe is a demonstration of the depth and effectiveness of our international professional relationships and the benefits this delivers to our clients”

Whilst the seminar itself was quite brief, running for one hour, a considerable amount of time was set aside for networking and for guests to have an opportunity to meet and establish the foundation for future relationships  with the various foreign lawyers. International guests were then treated to a traditional 'Fish & Chip' supper at Mr Selby Bennett’s home.

If you have an enquiry about an international matter, or any of the other services we offer such as employment lawyers and litigation law then please contact Humphries Kirk's Poole office on 01202 725400.
