wreathAdministration of Estates (Probate)

What to do when someone dies (administration of estates)

When someone dies it is necessary for his or her assets and liabilities (sometimes referred to as his or her estate) to be administered and for the assets ultimately to be distributed to those legally entitled to them (whether under a Will or, where there is no Will, under the laws of 'intestacy').

These are the duties of the Personal Representatives/Executor of the person who has died.

The administration of an estate can be a demanding and sometimes complicated matter and we can assist the Personal Representatives with this.  We can help the Personal Representatives to save Inheritance Tax that might otherwise be payable from the estate.  Without professional help Personal Representatives may face personal liability in respect of any unpaid beneficiary or creditor to the estate.  This is so even if they were not aware of the claims of the beneficiary or creditor at the time they distributed the estate.

For more information about the administration of estates, read our information sheets.
