Humphries Kirk offer Apprenticeships across the Firm. This is a fantastic way to earn whilst you train in a highly professional environment. We offer 2 types of work placements. If you wish to apply for either, please email and head up your email in accordance with one of the headings below and attach your CV and a covering email setting out a little about you, what you are looking to gain in terms of experience and skills along with your available dates.

Short Term Unpaid Voluntary Placements

Voluntary work experience placements are available to school students who may be looking to gain experience and an understanding of the workplace in a law environment.

Longer Term Paid Placements

Longer term placements are available for students studying towards a qualification and career in law who may be looking to gain a better understanding of working in a law firm whilst undertaking paid work for a fixed term period.


Recruitment Agencies

We only accept candidate introductions from our preferred agencies with whom we have agreed terms and conditions in advance.


Trainee Solicitor Applications


Applications for 2018 Training Contracts are now closed.  We are currently taking applications for the 2019 and 2020 intake.   When sending your application, please apply by email if possible and specify your preferred year of commencement in the subject header.

What we look for: We recognise the importance of contributing to the next generation of Solicitors and as a leading local law firm, we are proud to offer excellent training and support. Trainee Solicitors also provide a valuable resource to our busy Firm, therefore, candidates must be prepared to undertake a wide range of tasks and go the extra mile in preparation and recognition of the fact that this is a profession that is going to require an incredibly high degree of dedication, tenacity, flexibility and hard work. Desirable traits will include; good communication skills, strong academic skills and a good work ethic. Ties to the region are desirable but not a pre-requisite. Please note that Training Contracts are normally only offered on a full time basis.

Candidate Eligibility: In order to apply, you will have completed your law degree or be able to verify predicted results.  Candidates will normally have been accepted onto an LPC before applying, but in any event, it is a condition that all appointed Trainees must have successfully completed the LPC prior to commencement of the Training Contract. If you have taken an alternative route to qualification, you will be required to supply appropriate details and qualification results.

  • A covering letter detailing; details of any relevant work experience, your degree results/predicted results, dates of your LPC, any areas of law where you have a specific interest and your preferred start date (please note, we will not normally consider candidates wishing to commence after next year).
