Local solicitors’ firm provides legal assistance to Bridport Literary and Scientific Institute

Dorset and Somerset solicitors’ firm Humphries Kirk, was instructed to provide legal advice and assistance to the Bridport Area Development Trust, in the acquisition of the iconic former Literary and Scientific Institute Building on East Street, Bridport.

The building, locally known as the ‘Old Library’, is a major historic feature of the town and currently undergoing substantial remedial works under the guidance of the Bridport Area Development Trust, with the benefit of Heritage Lottery Funding.

Howard Yarnold, partner at Humphries Kirk and head of the firm’s land law team, who has been carrying out the legal work, commented: “I was delighted to be able to assist Bridport Area Development Trust in this project. The building has such historical significance for the town and promises to be a real asset for the community once the renovation works have been completed.

“I live just outside Bridport, and wanted to ensure that the legal niceties were carried out in a timely fashion to enable the Trust to engage workmen and embark upon this major undertaking as smoothly as possible. The project is now well underway and I am sure that members of the local community will be pleased when the building can be seen in all its glory.”

Humphries Kirk provides legal expertise to private and commercial clients, with offices in Poole, Parkstone, Southbourne, Swanage, Wareham, Dorchester, Crewkerne, London as well as an international network of solicitors.
